This is really strange and I cannot find a way to debug it. Receiving e-mails work fine, but sending e-mails works only if I go through the VPN and use the local ip of SMTP.
I am able to use my iPhone, iPad to send e-mails with SMTP authentication and SSL without any issues and it was very easy to set it up. I read that they are using port 443. On thunderbird, I tried several things, but I was not able to make it work.
My mail server has the following ports open:
I am able to access all those ports with telnet, and I can even send an e-mail through telnet on port 2525 using regular mail commands.
I have tried several versions of thunderbird, I just upgraded now to the latest one (v10.0), and thunderbird keeps giving me the following error:
Error: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED) [nsIMsgMailNewsUrl.server]" nsresult: "0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED)" location: "JS frame :: resource:///modules/activity/alertHook.js :: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 80" data: no]
Source File: resource:///modules/activity/alertHook.js
Is there a way to debug this or get an idea of what is going on or find another way to simulate what my iPhone is doing when sending e-mails ?
I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
